Chalet Jordan

Activities for the non skiers part 1: swimming in Morzine and beyond

In any skiing party there will always be a day or two where you either fancy a bit of time doing something else, or maybe you have small children who will only want to ski for part of the day.

The area around Chalet Jordan has really fantastic swimming and aqua facilities, so do not forget to bring your trunks and costumes.

In Morzine, a 5 minute drive from Chalet Jordan, we have indoor and outdoor facilities that are used by international triathletes and families alike.  Whilst the outdoor Olympic pool is shut during the winter, the indoor facilities provide users with the opportunity to swim in either a 25 metre training pool, a learner pool, or an ankle deep nursery pool, which is perfect for preschoolers to have a charge about. The complex is open every day during the skiing season, noon until 8pm in the week, and 2pm until 8pm at the weekend.

At higher altitude is the Aquariaz Avoriaz water park.  This is less of a swimming pool, more of a water theme park, with a lazy river, child’s water slide, an adult’s water ride (which I can recommend!) and lots to keep everyone busy and thoroughly happy for an afternoon.  During the skiing season, it is open from 2pm until 8pm everyday, and very reasonably priced at 5 euros for the over 5s, and 8 euros for the over 8s, as long as you enter before 4pm.

A little further afield is La Cite de L’Eau, or City of Water, in Amphion Les Bains, which has been built on the banks of Lake Leman (Lake Geneva), about a 25 minute drive from Chalet Jordan.  Equipped with three swimming pools, a full training pool with diving boards and lanes, a wave pool with graduated entry which is perfect for older children, a nursery ankle deep pool with water slide for toddlers, and two heated plunge jacuzzi pools.  There are sunbeds around the pools, and a fast water slide too.

For a full day out and to experience a life-changing quality of waterslide, you will need to visit the Aqua Parc in Bouveret, near Evian on the banks of Lac Leman.  The red water slide is something to be experienced, rather than written about!  There is something for all ages here, ranging from splash areas for the little ones, to near vertical drops for the daredevils.
