The Portes Du Soleil sees continued investment this year in its ski lifts. All of these new lifts are easily accessible from Chalet Jordan.
1. As described in an earlier post, the rather antique Pleney “telecabine” and “telepherique” ski lifts in Morzine has been replaced by a lovely new “bubble” style ski lift. Works have been taking place all summer, and the new lift will be open in time for the beginning of the winter season. The new lift will be able to transport 2800 skiers up the mountain every hour (double the old capacity).
2. The first phase of the new link between Morzine and Avoriaz is now open, with the new 3S “telecabine” open from Prodains to Avoriaz. The new ski lift has a capacity of 2500 skiers per hour, and provides the quickest link from Morzine to the centre of Avoriaz. For those staying in Chalet Jordan, this isn’t the most convenient way of getting to Avoriaz, since Les Prodains is up a valley on the opposite side of Morzine. The Ardent lift remains the quickest and easiest route to Avoriaz. It was itself updated in 2011. In addition, this winter sees parking charges for the first time in the Prodains car park, while Ardent remains free.
3. The Teleski du Lac (also described in an earlier post) opens this winter in La Grande Terche. The handy new ski lift enables skiers to complete the Tour of the Roc D’Enfer entirely by ski. This “hidden gem” of a route is a particular favourite of the writer. Until now, skiers had always been obliged to walk the final 500m of the tour.
4. Finally, the old two man chairlift from Morgins to Champoussin (Pointe de L’Au) has been replaced with a faster, 4 seater ski lift.
